Hi everyone

thinking about changing yeast from yeastac to actisaf. we’re finishing continental bulls on a maxammon barley ration, anyone any experience with actisaf and/ or seen any benefits from running it in the ration.

Yeasac is fed in a beef max with rumitech mineral from Harbro, trying to increase DLWG, feed efficiency and decrease the fcr.

Both are Live yeasts which is good, but from memory, Yeasac is a Brewers Yeast and Actisaf is a Bakers yeast strains. I think if you were to see a benefit, using a live rumen specific strain of yeast may help.
Levucell from ForFarmers or SC Gold from Biotal are the same product and are Rumen specific (a strain found in the rumen and cultured), and are also live. Both products are produced by Lallemand.
However I'd still feed one batch on Yeasac/Actisaf and one batch on the Levucell/SC Gold to see if you can find any noticeable difference

Yeasts do work as they scavenge oxygen etc... but they are an expensive cost particularly when beef margins are poor. You have alkalised the concentrate which is sensible and more important. I only feed yeast if we have poor grain digestion seen in the muck and typically with Dairy diets if I ever fed them....
