My friend did the same with his van. It was almost full of diesel though. Engine did stop because of it.

He's used it for a few months since though and been no bother.

He advised taking fuel tank off. Said it was a strange shape and lots of bits where contaminated diesel could sit after tank drained.

If it was running during or afterwards apparently it's in need of a new tank and fuel system there was a few NH done locally and the dealer changed everything.
If it wasn't running a new tank would be the worst case scenario

its been ran for a bit its a 160 puma no said they had doen it only found out when it stopped! We thought it was water so drained tanks refilled and got it going.

Only relaized it was add blue next day as it had crystalized! So i will imagine we will have to have injectors and hp pump in the future!

I think your insurance will pay to put it right

Is there a certain procedure one should adopt when refuelling and topping up adblue. I’m always aware that when one is rushing this expensive mixup could happen.

I did the above, but still nervous. As the ad-blue nozzle/neck is smaller, the diesel won't go in it. I did wonder about the diesel tank having a tube or cross-piece in the filler neck that the nozzle had to fit over...

I seem to remember that Ford(?) has something to stop petrol/diesel miss-filling - how did that work?

Ford fuel fillers for the last 10 years ish have a special filler on diesel models so only a big nozzle can go in it, petrol cars are ok as they only allow a small petrol nozzle in, so in the case of tractors the same system would work as the ad blues are small.
I suppose you could buy one and fit it, but they dont then have what you would call a secure screwed on cap, just a push out of the way flap, so that would need sorting.

The other day I saw in a catalogue an Adblue nozzle that had a magnet fitted to the delivery tube. It is meant to detect another in the neck of the Adblue tank, and if it does, allows the liquid to flow. Of course on the diesel tank there's no magnet, so stopping cross fueling. It costs of course, but if you have seasonal workers etc might be a good investment.

Adblue tanks have a magnet in the top of the filler.

The Adblue nozzles on fuel station forecourts have a magnetic nozzle.
