Ad blue usage

As title really what are people finding is a normal usage of ad blue in percentage terms to use? Having a friendly discussion with a manufacturer over my usage and my 30ltrs a day usage seems excessive especially when the week before it was using 20ltrs a day on same job? I know all the ins and outs of load etc but just looking for a ball park figure as our other tractors use only a dribble

I think my Valtra T174 tier 4 final typically uses 25 to 30 litres per day, more than a tier 4 final Fendt 939 and roughly double our tier 4 interim 724. Non EGR engines use a lot more Adblue than EGR equipped engines. Later emission regulation engines generally use more AdBlue.

It depends upon the brand of engine, and what generation of emissions bollox it needs to meet.

Adblue only tier 4i engines typically use under 1 liter of pigs pea to 10 litres of diesel when worked hard, and don't bother with it on light work.

Later adblue only tier 4f seem to drink the stuff for fun ?

If consumption jumps from 20 to 30l per day on the same task, then I'd suspect something is about to go wrong.

What tractor has this occurred with?

Some models have a catalyst which needs cleaned via a "regeneration", i.e. sat still while it pours in extra diesel to get hot enough to burn off the soot.

If the catalyst is becoming blocked, it will dose in more adblue to keep the NOx reduction levels correct.

Yea on same work it is a tier 4b fpt engine have never had the tractor do a regen but it is always working never really dithering about on yard work so I think it should be at its most efficient working steady all the time. How would you know if catalyst is becoming blocked

Our fergys and new Holland’s all use roughly 600L diesel to 1 tank of ad blue not sure how many litres the ad blue tanks are though

I only found out about catalysts needing a regen after buying a second hand tractor that had been dithering about on a hedge cutter.

It was using what I thought was a lot of adblue, and the mechanic set it to do a forced regen. Consumption has been fine since then, though it's a lot higher than than the tier 4i that it replaced.

I've no idea if CNH need a forced regen occasionally, but someone on here will....

If the consumption has risen by 50% to do the same job, then there's something not right somewhere though!

Well I agree there is something changed but manufacturer says all is well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

NH t6.175 here is a year old next week so whatever tier that makes it, just hit 300 hours and almost emptied the first 210l barrel. All ploughing, discing and combi drilling. It’s not being worked really hard but not pottering about on a hedge cutter or in the yard either

You're surely talking about the DPF needing to regen, I've never heard of the DOC being regenerated.
