ADAS Crop development report for AHB Cereals and Oilseeds

Wheat%20growing.jpg

The vaste majority of cereal and oilseed rape crops were in good condition at the end of February with few weed, pest and disease problems reported. Mild, dry weather through out the autumn and winter meant that over winter crop survival was good. Rainfall has tended to be below the long term average in most locations leading to fields remaining accessible through out much of the period, allowing good progress with planned autumn herbicide and fungicide applications. However, a turn to wetter weather at the end of February has meant that any plans to drill early spring crop have been put on hold as soil conditions are now too wet to access fields. Only the lightest of land in the south of England was drilled with spring barley prior to the recent rain.
