Adding strength to a block wall

Ok, So if I build a tank 48ft long and 13 ft wide and 7 ft deep with 9" blocks would pouring say 6" of concrete between the wall and the earth sides add any strength to the tank? its in good clay ground. Before any one asks it cant be shuttered hence why I'm asking.

We did the above in a weeping wall slurry/manure store. It was fine, until it wasn't. Dumping manure into an almost full store, sent shock waves across the structure, and a lovely zig zag crack appeared.
We had to demolish and mass concrete fill it, which is something we should have done in the first place.

So it depends on usage, imo. If there will be 'shock waves' as it's filled, then eventually it will crack.
A steady fill with material which isn't giving this effect (as the grain store above) then the blocks plus re bar and filled solid is fine.

Did a couple like that a few years ago but used 12" blocks for the walls. Haven't had any issues with them. Only 6ft deep but can't see 7ft being a problem.

I suppose the block wall is the shuttering?

If it's not already dug out just dig a 7ft deep foundation and fill concrete into that. Dig centre out afterwards and pour floor. Never seen it done myself but heard of plenty who done it.

Fitted slats on quite a few done like that over the years, one was 12ft deep, very hairy sitting in a 3 ton forklift in the bottom of it:nailbiting:. Cheap way of shuttering a tank if the ground is suitable.

Tank years ago that was built around ere,, was with 18" wall,, 2x 9" blocks, and plaster inside,, very unlikely any more,,all shuttered now,, it's never the clay that cracks,,the walls,, its usually pressure of water,, that cant get away,,
