Adjuvant advice

Hi Lads ,, I know this subject has been covered before but can anyone tell me if there’s an adjuvant that covers all so to speak! I spray @ 95—100 Ltrs per ha and have used Kantor and torpedo 11.... I’m thinking mainly fungicides... validate any or much different to torpedo? Thanks for any replies.

Not sure there’s much if anything to be gained using adjuvants with many fungicides.

I have to say I think kantor with Broadway star is worth it

Always used broadway star with drill, biopower or similar from memory. Worth it in my opinion.

Technical argument for adjuvants with fungicides is weak IMO. I might consider using torpedo if I had to use a herbicide and had big weeds in a crop or I knew I would be asking a lot of the product, ie conditions were bad or past appropriate weed timing.

So from the replies above no one feels there is any advantage of using an adjuvant @ 100 Ltrs per ha unless possibly with a herbicide... it was the low water rate I was interested in ..

Several people I have spoken with in the past felt that using more water volume gave them better results.

This was however offset by people saying they were using low water rates and quite happy with their results. Up to the farmer himself to decide. I can't see that using more water would hurt.

Only downside would be higher water volume could stretch timings if weather catchy and pushing the limit of sprayer capacity. Most modern fungicides are designed to work at 100l/Ha or less very happily

I dont sell and I am not involved in adjuvants in anyway, but worth pointing out that agchems are tested through registration process at 200 lt/ha and generally applied in perfect conditions. So perhaps spraying at 100 lt/ha in sub-optimal conditions they could have a place?!?!? I don’t know the answer however just a thought!

If designed to work at 200L and applied at 100L you have already potentially doubled to concentration of the wetters and spreaders in the spray mix.....

By the way what is a a cheaper alternative for Kantor? I don't know what is in it.

Interagro's Kantor seems to be a one-size-fits-all. @phil uses it and grows good crops. https://www.interagro.co.uk/product/kantor/

Torpedo II is the DeSangosse version of Kantor http://www.desangosse.co.uk/pdf/products/torpedo-ii-product-guide.pdf

Adjuvants are not pesticides and will not make up for insufficient active ingredient, nor permit spraying in inappropriate spraying conditions. But... they will assist the pesticide and in marginal circumstances may make a difference. IMHO the gains are marginal and they can be expensive insurance that carries a good profit margin for distributors. I will use some adjuvants where they are either recommended on the product label e.g. Biopower with Atlantis/Hatra/Horus or where hard water can cause reduced efficacy or where the pesticide performance needs to be 100% e.g. flea beetle insecticides.

Branded products from the major R&D manufacturers like BASF will have lots of adjuvants built into their formulations. Branded Roundup for example, has lots of extras not included in generic glyphosate cans.

Totally agree with this. The branded versions of some glyphosate products I always found to be very very good.

I forget which product it was, may have been Roundup Max or something but it was a 480 or 540g formulation, sent it out at a high rate to spray off some old grass, farmer used it and it rained heavily about 20 minutes after the sprayer left the field. Farmer was right on the phone asking if it would still work. I said we will just have to wait and see. It all died fine, the dandelions took a fair time to disappear though but it worked.

I was always a big fan of De Sangosse products and found them very very good.

I often think of situations like that as follows;

If you sprayed the grass by accident with roundup and went out with a hosepipe to try and wash it off, would you think you’d get away with it....?

I doubt it!
