Hey guys im in the states, I just received my 800hd. I run strictly pellets, however im having a problem with the pellets sticking right before they come out. I guess to much saliva is reaching the pellets. Any words of wisdom here? They are so new in the states that i haven't been able to get much help here.

they are best with straight grain , if your in the states straight corn (known as maize here ) will be perfect , you may have to feed a protein supplement separately if in a feed lot , prob not at grass .

If you're on a very narrow setting you may have to scrape the slots out every morning.

We have an old drill following harrow tine that has a half inch 'nib' bent over at the end for this purpose...

...keep it on a hook inside the hopper.

Straight grain is best. They were designed so that cheap grain could be fed easily, instead of the expense of pellets.

I have been offered the use of an 800 feeder from a neighbour and possible purchase as he's retiring.
I think his 800 model is about 3 years old and doesn't appear to have the restrictor plate/white ladder in place. In fact he can't remember if it ever had one.
Were the early models supplied without the plate?
If so can the plates be purchased separately and retro fitted easily to the older 800 model?

Our feeder is three years old too and came with them, but mine is the 500
I'm sure you can get them and they just slip in.
There's a place under the lid for storing them in mine as it's not always necessary to use them.
They might even be there in yours still, they just slide into the storage position too

Rancher. Thanks for that. I ll take a closer look. He used it for ad lib and creep feeding so he didn’t mess around with it much.

Just oats for now, ewes are getting cake outside while its dry, once we start lambing i suspect I'll put a mix in and open the slots up.

Other just hay (&what grass they find when out during the day)

Can I ask why the need for the feeders of giving cake and access to grass ?
Just curious for reason behind thinking

Access to grass maybe not that accurate....access to a field that once had grass! while its dry, i think its important for ewes to get abit of exercise pre-lambing..... plus a big saving on straw if the ewes are out the shed for 8hrs.

Giving cake- the feeders only went in yesterday, ewes start lambing 1st of feb so cake has been fed for 10days already, can't really just stop, but the current plan is to do only 1 cake feed per day (as opposed to the 2 we've usually done), with oats available all the time in the feeders,
Will probably attempt to feed the whole cake &oat ration through the feeders once the ewes start lambing so aren't going outside, with the aim to avoid the cake scrums completely.
But if that's not that successful or the intakes too high, then if i can cut one cake scrum out per day and have just oats in the hoppers for the rest of the ration I'll be happy enough.

What does everyone feed through the 3 in 1 as a source of protein. Currently mixing a protein pellet with barley and oats but they tend to block if shut down any less than a kilo a peice due to the pellets getting damp from the ewes saliva
