Yes, both for predator protection and containment to encourage laying in nest boxes.
Yes, we thought our guardian alpacas would keep foxes at bay, so didn't fence round the moving coop. After a week or two, the hens got braver and started scratching under the hedge or going into the wood for a change of scene. Easy prey for foxes, we lost 25 or so in short order, now fence them in. Not bothered by fence keeping foxes out, it is to keep hens in. They lock themselves up at night in the converted horsebox and are safe there. Eggs delicious...well worth the premium you'll be charging

Have you sorted out buying in all thé feed and bedding? Can you get it organically? Do you néed thé organic label?

Direct sales are a LOT of work. But it is rewarding. ? You do have to really work at it.
