Advice re finding an accountant?

Hi folks. First time posting here, so apologies if this question has been answered previously or I've overlooked a section of the site.

I've recently taken over the family farm in Surrey. However, my wife and I both have second jobs. I'm looking for an accountant who can understand both the farm finances and my consulting income, and see what can be offset against the other. Every accountant that I've spoken with so far is happy to look at my non-farm income but shrugs their shoulders when it comes to the farm.

Any suggestions where to look or how to go about finding such a person? Happy to interact with them remotely.

are very good for farming , landed estates etc maybe a bit expensive but you get what you pay for in my experience .

Hopefully you are a Ltd Co consultant? If so, there are certainly “synergies” that can be achieved.

My accountant is a bit far away, I’m afraid, but does manage to balance the books very carefully.

Thanks. Neighbours largely do their books themselves. I don't need a deep specialist, just someone who can work out how to minimise tax bill from my two part-time roles!

I would suggest you do need a rural specialist, not to understand your income tax liability from your 2 roles but one that can make sure you stay on the right side of capital gains and inheritance tax rules.

Agriculture has some pretty generous and peculiar tax breaks and maximising these will be far more valuable in the long term than anything to do with income tax

It has to be the worst false economy other than representing yourself on a murder charge I can think of.

If you have an old fashioned agricultural bank manager, they will know who is worth using. I believe Martin & co are good though.
