looking at a new machine because not many S/h ones about! would rather a s/h machine !

Father in law has a grassland subsoiler and the ground was so uneven after it wasnt worth it!

Mix of heavy clay here so no rocks

I have to say, in my opinion, if the ground was that bad after a grassland subsoiler - one of two things - wrong subsoiler or being operated incorrectly. Erth and Sumo are both well liked and both do a good job in the right hands.

As far as aerator rollers - for my money, the only one I would have is the Aerworx and possibly the red irish built copy, though I have not had a close look at that one. I would not even consider one where the blades are lined 'across' the drum - blades need to be in line with the rotation of the drum in my opinion. Other machines that share the design of the Aerworx are just not built strong enough for us where we hire out but may be ok for farm use.

What type of subsoiler did you use, I’ve used the Erth and it left the ground perfectly level.

subsoiler is for deep compaction, aerator is for shallow compaction, 2 different machines for different purposes

i've decided that im going to build one !!!!

no one local has one to hire and to be fair i can'j justify the purchase cost of a new one

can any one help me
blade spacing ?
regarding the blades?

Blade size
Length
width
thickness

What angle and the sharpened angle if that makes sense

Can buy the blades think they are bardic. Getting the 25mm wall pipe will be the prodlem I would have thought might do with 20mm wall at a push but any less and it's a none starter in my view

The pipe walls are not 25mm they are a lot less some are down. To 12 mm

i was thinking of using 16mm thick

I heard of some getting dinged the lighter one same as a roller. Think 16 is light enough too will check with local manufacturer this evening.
Alot of pressure were the spikes force through

watson use a 20mm but aerworx use 14-20. i think the diameter of the barrel would determine alot

lager diameter barrel would need thicker steel and smaller would need less
