A few points/tips that will help you get best deal and cover;
1- If you ask Brokers/ Insurers to look at your Insurances as a package that could help you get a better deal. So even if they are due at different times get them to also quote on car,truck,liability,household, farm buildings etc cover at the same time. They can easily break the prices down seperately for you. This gives us as Broker more bargaining power with Insurers.
2- All Insurers tend to charge higher rates for Ag Contracting. Any Broker worth their salt will want to know exactly the type of work you do. For instance if you are doing whole farm contracting or own farm a fair percentage of the time and the other contracting work is say only 25% of tractor usage then you should be rated on farming. Difference between farming and contracting rates can be up to 100% depending on Insurers
3- Get your tractor values correct. Insure for what it would cost you to go out and buy a similar replacement machine. Bear in mind how strong secondhand tractor market is at the moment.
4- Discuss with Broker carefully any contract work you do that is not on a farm. For instance carting stone and soil away from a house building site with tractor and trailer is not AG Contracting. Insurers will need to extend cover further to include this.
5- Make sure you know exactly what claims you have had over last 3 years and exactly what was paid out. Disclose this to everybody quoting. If you do not have this info or do not disclose accurately the quote and cover offered is not worth the paper it is written on.
Happy to be of any assistance.
