Hi I have a hot/cold wash at 2500psi and a cold wash at 4000psi at a 15.1 litre p/m, so the right machines for the job

i say you can charge more than £15 per hour, £20 to £25 per hour is more like it with a decent machine? you also want to be charging about £0.50p per mile to travel to/from job to cover van expenses and fuel etc. If you have a full days work you could adjust prices accordingly, or price per machine as said.

Be nothing worse than doing a 5 hr job on site then often not worth traveling to the next cause not enough time to finish it anyway. Customers never see all this dead time!

I think your spot on , if your not charging travel . Just charging actual work time . And don’t just stand on your phone . Tfr is £25 drum and it don’t go far

So to charge 20 ph then 30p per mile would make the price more interesting or a straight 25 per hour including ppm. I also do domestic and HGV so could easily go from mrs Jones driveway to a farm to a small transport company with 4 7.5 ton vehicles, so ppm doesn't really come into it as would take the total cost of ppm out of the totals days earnings, so costs for machines, fuel and ppm is covered

So 20.00 -25.00 ph with ppm included is a good start. I have a very strong work ethic and there is nothing worse than someone being on their phone rather than working..there is nothing more infuriating..the way I see it hard earnt money needs to be well spent on a good job..?, tfr is not cheap I agree, but a good quality product gets good results and good results gets repeat work and a reputation..?

I allways do my own machines.its often possible to find issues as you are thoroughly looking at various parts.if you are getting that rate you are doing very well I’d imagine and good luck to you
Nick...
Got to agree about spotting things while washing, even though for me washing just seems a way of transferring muck, grease and oil from the machine to myself. Actually if I could get £45/hr I could be tempted to do a lot more.

It is a filthy job but you will always find a penny in some muck somewhere..?

Good luck whatever you do. Well done for coming on here and asking. Was brave of you! You come across as a decent chap.

If you do it on a per vehicle basis you might get jobs from machinery dealers. Especially if you've commercial experience. Could you also offer pictures of vehicles you've cleaned to offer them for sale?

It must be a thing in America. Millennial farmer who I follow on YouTube had a specialist come in and clean his machines after harvest.

I can take card payment on the day
Hi just thinking about it in a logical manner, and as it would be a good experience to actual see the vehicles, the first clean I will do for 5.00 p/h until the end of june, this would be chance to start, see the machines talk to the farmers and more importantly..get before and after pics..

In my experience, I have used people like yourself before. In my days as a dealer i befriended the local polish car wash. they would clean a tractor to perfection for £120. Using my own technicians from the workshop was a complete waste of time and was unproductive. Good technicians can earn you alot more when they arent cleaning filthy machines. ALso good technicians normally hate cleaning machines . In my current role i use a very good company from the north of England. They details our machines at shows. So my advice for what its worth. Go around a few dealers and charge £50 per tractor if you want to learn. You will be busy

When can you start....?! :D I can offer you plenty of examples if required.

In all seriousness - it sounds like a good idea you've got here. I know plenty of dealers who use a specialist for this job.

Your peeing into the wind if you think farmers will stand anything like £45 an hour for pressure washing stuff, but good luck to you (y)

I would stick to washing HGV’s etc. Could you look at washing Taxis, minibuses, buses etc? Or washing peoples 4x4’s, tree surgeons vehicles and trailers? Could try washing supermarket trollies and baskets maybe?
