Agronomist

Just wondering how often people have had visits / phone calls from their agronomist over this winter ? How often do you think you need to chat to discuss business ? And do you stick to office hours to discuss things on the phone ? Suppose there will be a big difference on answers as everyone's business and circumstances are very different. We are currently using a independent agronomist and chemical from a buying group.

Through the winter I only hear from him every few weeks but I get regular emails regarding Nroso meetings and any other relevant info and a chat to see that I have no problems, from the end of Jan/ Fed we start discussing our plan of attack for the year ahead and have a walk around with him every 10 day's or so and once things start to happen he's with me once a week.he's always at the other end of a phone and says don't be afraid to call which I do but I normally try to avoid sundays.

My agronomist comes every Thursday during the growing season. His sleep pattern seems similar to mine ( minimal ), if out if sensible hours send text but he seems available most of the time.

I've got several friends out of a pickle when they couldn't get hold of their agronomist, either because it was the weekend and they couldn't get hold of/didn't want to ring them, or on several occasions because 'during office hours,' in peak season their agronomist wasn't answering the phone. The explanation - playing golf!

Mine comes every fortnight during the growing season. Best time to get him on the phone is first thing as he is either in his office at home or on the way to a client. I try & avoid ringing out of hours but sometimes a quick query on a tank mix is necessary.

If I wasn't BASIS registered myself I'd be leaning on him more.

I go weekly this time of year but maybe go twice in total (to walk round) between mid December and end January - however constantly doing stuff all year round as do more than agronomy on my friends farms.......

Most agronomists always on the end of phone when needed

Ours gets round at least once a fortnight during the spraying season, otherwise just as and when.
Have texted him on sunday if something is not clear on the rec sheet, but would never ring somebody on sunday (exept JD dealer when combine breaks down of course)
Everyone is entitled to a day off

In the of season mine comes 2 or 3 times and once things move he comes fortnightly. When the reccs are emailed through the date of the next visit is always there. He is always out of the office by 8.30 so all his customers phone at 8 so generally it is better to phone his mobile during the day. He also does a customer newsletter each month this often has info on legislation changes, chemical use up dates as well as disease info chemical timeings and any thing esle relevant.

PS hes independant.
