Is there some literature or textbooks that one would recommend for a general, almost introductory, understanding of agronomy?

Any books that might of been recommended reading for a university/college course.

That's one of the texts I was referring to. The Agricultural Notebook is on its 20th edition now. It doesn't really have the kind of detail you need to learn more about agronomy.

The best way would be for you to do some crop walking with your current agronomist before they retire.
