EBV mustbe similar to PTAs?
Yes and no.
you must refer back to the breed average to see whether a bull/ram is actually better than average, your +10kg animal might be a lot worse than average but because it’s still a plus it looks good. Why they can’t do a base change where the average is reset to 0 every 5yrs like the dairy PTAs I
Having 0 as the average would make comparisons a lot simpler though
If you rebase to zero, almost all of their sheep will have a negative index, which I can't see going down well.

Perhaps the ADHB realise the whole lot needs a bit of a
shake up/rationalisation and that's why they are creating a new post:scratchhead:

I think your right , this thread shows how divisive the whole system is , mind you , get the right man , someone with focus and forethought in the job and he/she will earn their £42000 , Something needs to be done for sure .

Going back to the beginning and being really boring the advert for this AHDB position on their website actually quoted a salary within the range £28296 and £42K pa and is for a "Breeding Projects Manager ( Cattle) ". The role is described as a " Senior specialist role qualified in animal breeding and genetics or qualified by evidenced experience. This role will be able to contribute and input into new policies/approaches and design development projects to implement research findings to the benefit of industry". The roles purpose is "Direct management of the research and development programme within designated areas, from inception to implementation" The closing date for applications is Jan 28th so still plenty of time for the Forum's resident experts;) But you will probably end up with a smaller salary than you thought and will have nothing to do with sheep.

"Breeding Projects Manager ( Cattle) ".
:eek::eek: - that's just typical of us:D 9 pages of blatherin' on and it's a cattle job:facepalm:
Never mind it's more entertaining (and cheaper) than going down the pub:)

Mind you, with their track record, the ADHB will probably think they need a similar job just for sheep:LOL:
