Two export businesses will join the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) at the Restaurants Canada (RC) Show in Toronto from Monday, April 8 to Wednesday, April 10.

Canada’s leading foodservice and hospitality expo will provide the platform for British beef, lamb and pork to take a “starring role”.

The show, which is expected to attract more than 22,000 visitors will provide the opportunity to connect with key foodservice buyers, influencers and operators.

AHDB analysis has highlighted opportunities for premium red meat products in Canada, which are differentiated from domestic production.

In 2023, the UK exported 2,097t of beef to Canada worth £10 million , 812t of pork worth £2.5 million and 619t of sheep meat worth £2.6 million.

AHDB senior trade development manager, Susana Morris said:

“Canada presents opportunities for premium red meat products from Britain, and the show is the perfect stage for us to showcase this to the foodservice sector.

“Canadian consumers have a relatively high disposable income to purchase high-quality products that our producers and processors are well placed to supply,” she added.

AHDB’s export team in the Americas region has been taking part in Expo ANTAD in Guadalajara, Mexico, to promote British pork offal and the Annual Meat Conference (AMC) in Nashville US to promote beef, lamb and pork.

Morris continued: “Four exporters joined us in Mexico for Expo ANTAD, which attracted a record 40,000 visitors and led to positive meetings during the show and off stand.

“With increasing pig meat consumption in Mexico, the long-term prospects for British pork in this market are encouraging.

“AMC gave us the opportunity to showcase high quality British beef, lamb and pork as well as providing us and the four beef and lamb exporters valuable insight into market trends in the US that they can capitalise on.”
