this week i had the new AHDB CEO and CFO on farm - they left under no illusions that cereals future depends heavily on helping fix this assurance market access issue

In a few weeks time i have Tesco top management team here for a day - i promise they will understand the “value” or red tractor before they leave

we will smash this protection racket one step at a time

NFU is £32 million but they spent £35 million so lost a bit in the last review. Thats total membership though. I was told that farmer members was about £10 million so about a third of the membership income.

It just shows they no longer represent working farmers, they are in bed with the very bodies of agriculture that they would fight for a better deal. They shouldn't be called the NFU because they're not.

Given that same report said they made £19m the year before (2017) - think they will be ok. Property side seems to effect bottom line more than anything else.
Exactly this , more worried with advertising 90 plus % payout in tv for insurance so to me they are heavily dependent on non farming clients now anyway and share price

I do think yourself and a certain few others on here have probably done more good on rt and alike than any other person(s)-platform , if and when rt is folded up perhaps thoughts might turn to what is required in its place and the role Uk farmers need to have input into its core marketing strategy.

The NFU do an enormous amount of good for the industry and there are some excellent representatives at local and regional level.
They have 2 massive problems.

1, They are heavily influenced by those with the most time to lobby them. This is why they are biased towards the interests of big businesses with many employees rather than family/small farms.

2, Red tractor.
How have they allowed a body they own become the very thing it was meant to avoid?
The fact it exists in the form it does shows a high level of either negligence or corruption.
It is also connected to problem 1 in that it disproportionately affects smaller farms and seems to only benefit [some of] the larger ones.

I will not renew my membership until compulsion is removed from RT membership and it has to exist on merit.

Farmer owned rather than NFU owned?

I'd have said AHDB owned. But they are currently a stakeholder, and it hasn't really worked.

The current set up doesn't work. Couldn't have been mis-managed any worse really. There's dozens of them making the decisions, and it's failed the producers miserably. No premium to imports, and imports have easier market access.

It was obvious that was goung to happen.

At least AHDB now understand the failings after tff has pointed it out to them. Why we needed to tell them, and they hadn't worked it out for themselves, I'll never understand. They've had 20 years to think about it.

Still, at least RT are now having to put a plan together to say how their scheme might work to fix the situation.

THIS ^^^^ is how you buy the agricultural media narrative, get idiots like blenky and Smith a platform etc

subtle corruption everywhere - uk farmers are being treated like fools

maybe @AM_Arable could explain what possible value a scheme basically compulsory to farmers could gain through advertising to farmers ? …….. frankly such sponsorship is little more than a bribe

I wonder if a few backstabbers were attending and had a few polite words with any members of RT,ADHB,AIC and NFU.
I certainly would of.
