AHDB Strategy Consultation

Came across this page inviting comments on the 2017 - 2020 AHDB strategy and decided to respond. My piece is titled 'Free at the Point of Delivery' and relates the the Board to the NHS. Both are funded through compulsory contributions and provide their services at no direct cost to the consumer. My contention is that the AHDB needs detailed scrutiny of its performance. The Board has an income in excess of £60 million and staff of around 400.

It's a real pity that I failed to get this so late, eligible consultation has to be submitted before 5.00pm on Monday. But better to be early rather than late.

Did you know about the consultation? Maybe you'd be interested in giving them your views.

This truly highlights the apathy by the majority of the industry to Agri politics and its direction of flow. It goes without question that if future strategy does not meet a number of "grass root"criteria AHDB will be castigated yet again, although farmer contribution is minimal criticism is plentiful. This is a contributing factor in the failure of a large % of Farmer owned Cooperatives if as a farmer you have an opinion on future strategy do not hide your light let the AHDB know.

Plenty told them last year and they have totally ignored all those views and carried on living in the bubble they were living in before this even thou they promised that the future direction of the AHDB would be guided by the levy payers..

I seriously think given the above the only option sadly is for the AHDB to be scrapped.

After all they tell us to do more for less but they seem to do less and less yet take more and more out of the industry.

Speaking from a lamb point of view I'd agree with guth as an industry we haven't got a clue where the money is being spent we need younger people in this country to eat lamb its needs to be marketed correctly and placed in growth markets like fast food and ready meals. Also we desperately need to break into new markets post brexit

Not sure it in the AHDB's remit but someone needs to tell the supermarkets/processors to stop buggering up what is a perfectly good product X farm, then perhaps they would sell more

+1 I think there is a big need to market to young people about the benefits of eating meat. There's a fashion of veganism and vetegerianism, amongst Young people. Imo we should also be marketing the importance of buying red tractor ready meals, and looking for the red tractor in restaurants. I don't think many young people will ever cook 'mini roasts' but they will buy a lot of products which we can influence.

You can tell them and fill as many forms as you like but they will not take any notice because they know best. I like the arable side of it even though they have far too many wheat and OSR varieties, but the beef and lamb lot should be disbanded. I hate having my money confiscated so they can send me glossy booklets telling my grandmother how to suck eggs. And Peter Kendall knows my views!

I've just read the beef and lamb section from the website. I'm now going to enjoy myself and watch my toenails grow.

All the usual bilge they haven't got a clue and the link with the NHS is very true. It's not our money and we don't have to earn it, so we'll waste it.
