No. What you mean is, a man is a man (and he hides the more feminine shades and colours of his character); a woman is a subordinate creature, put on earth for the pleasure of and to be under the control of 'the man.' In Russia the law is written to put LGBT persons in a subordinate category, and shores up the abusive culture against them.

You see, it's quite alright to dismiss these things when you are one of the unaffected groups. But it's a dog's life for those who by accident of birth are are treated very differently, and cannot live with the same dignity afforded to you. For a gay person, Iran is not dissimilar in many ways to nazi Germany. This thread shows how short our memories are, and the timing with holocaust memorial is particularly poignant.
Would you not agree though that it is a sad day when a Christian baker is taken to court because he won’t bake a cake decorated with a message promoting gay marriage?
Who is the persecuted minority now? It really is a sad day when you can’t live by your Christian beliefs without ending up in court.

You are right and I believe I am right to say that it has been chucked out now by the supreme court.

He was picked for a setup because some Christians have withdrawn goods and services from people according to their prejudices, and the baker walked into it. In the process of leveling up the law to make opportunity of access equal across the population, the new laws need to be tested. I think the law finally came to the right conclusion on the test. The nuance is that the law should prevent discrimination to access to goods and services. In other words, it should prohibit the baker from refusing to bake a cake for a gay couple. What it shouldn't do is force the baker to produce a political slogan. The baker is still obligated to sell equally to all people. What the baker should make clear is that he will supply a cake, minus political slogans, and the customer is welcome to add slogans to this later. And that's what he should have done in the first place.

Of course it could, and of those who have left NZ. But the point is that neither country has an oppressive regime in charge, restricting the fundamental democratic rights...

Hmmm, our fundamental democratic rights such as being able to protest? The Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill would do exactly that. We all know that given an inch, the police take a mile.
Will the "show us your papers" disappear once Covid is reduced to endemic?

They thought they could have their cake and eat it, just like another fella in the news these days.
Cake….bad for you in more ways than one.

I might be wrong, but my understanding was that the customer placed the order, which was initially accepted. This was referred to the boss, who contacted him to say he could not provide it, citing religious beliefs.

Meanwhile, Russia has been forced to back down by Ireland. When the dust has settled on this, a great statue of Simon Coveney will be erected in Dublin.

Now, now. I'm sure it was all to do with the farm boy from the boggy isle, and nothing to do with the British Navy which has an agreement to patrol Irish waters for them.

Now, now, when the British Navy can’t be trusted to go on a jolly, without losing an F-35 overboard, Simon had to take it on himself. He rattled up a few fishing trawlers out of Castletownbere, and fearlessly faced down Vlad.

It isn't here now, and never was in the way the media pretended. But you're referring to the proposal(s) in Part Three. The Bill in itself is fine, the problem is police discretionary power, and that's what the Courts are for. The rozzers, somewhere, sometime, will take the p!ss by pushing as far as they think they go; this will lead to a Judge either confirming that they are alright to do so - extremely unlikely, particularly after first instance - or telling them to wind their necks in.

As has been written, the law needs updating; but, rest assured, the Courts are truly independent (remember Brexit...) and Parliament cannot legislate away the Common Law. :)

Problem is when you have laws you need lawyers. I bet Russia isn’t overwhelmed with them. Which has to be something in its favour.
Lot's of lawyers in Russia, more per head than in most countries, about 390 people for each one, more than in the UK, ROI, Portugal, Spain etc., near as damn it the same as NZ.

Pretty sure it was the yanks lost the f35, but no matter. 😂
We did, but got it back. (y) @Asstree's just jealous because the Irish Air Force Corps aren't going to get new rubber bands this year, defence cuts don't you know. 😐
