Air compressor

My workshop air compressor has changed tone when running, and is no longer appearing to build any more pressure in the cylinder. Cylinder is currently sat at about 5bar.

It’s a fairly new Clarke belt drive compressor, little used. Oil is fine, pulley is turning but not doing anything.

Anyone hazard a guess as to where the problem might lie? Does it have piston rings which could have gone?

There's only a few things that can go wrong with them...
Is it leaking?
Rubber pastille on the non return valve at the receiver - has that gone hard and cracked?
Is the belt slipping?
Have the valves in the head given up the ghost?
And finally, is there any compression (i.e. rings fooked)?
Is the air filter blocked?

Let me know the answer - I've only ever had the pastille go hard and start leaking. Symptom of that was that it took a long time to build pressure. When finding that fault, I discovered they needed servicing (oil, filter, valves). Who knew? ;)

Is the belt slipping? Could be. It did smell a bit of belt.

Is the air filter blocked? Not checked, but unlikely. Will check tomorrow.
