Air con , I hate it

even in winter ( yes, it does get cold here. -4 C last night. Have had -7 at times ) I find I need to run the AC at a low setting. Sitting in a glass box on top of 12 ton of hot metal, with the sun coming through the glass straight at you, is a masochists idea of a sauna . . .
still need cool air around the face . . .
How did they use to manage without it out there

How did they use to manage without it out there

In winter they used to rug up with hessian wheat bags & ex army greatcoats. My father talked of wrapping his hands around oil filters to warm up, or grab a spark plug ( yes, spark plug - Kerosene ) to warm himself
In summer, a canvas beach umbrella was the high point of innovation in driver comfort. They drank a lot of water & black tea . . .

To be fair, most of our big Cropping areas weren't developed until the advent of higher horsepower tractors in the 60's & 70's, by which time AC cabs were being introduced on the US machines. In the 60's - 70's there was quite a large market for locally built aftermarket A/C cabs, but with the standardisation of manufacturers providing AC / soundproof cabs in the 70's that all ended

If you ignore the dust & the noise, a cabless tractor isn't too bad in the summer, as long as you have shade. However, ANY sort of cabin quickly becomes an oven without quality sealed air con . . .

I love A/C but it can give me a dry throat. As others have said, drink plenty of water.

They A/C unit in the little CS I have is ridiculous - run it full blast and it will kill you, you'll die of hypothermia! I guess you're closer to the sun when you're up an Austrian mountain, though
