We have a small sandblaster which we run off a Hydrovane type compressor, but have never had it working 100% and we are told we need an air dryer. Anyone had experience of one of these/ As we only use it occasionally is it possible to hire one anywhere ?

Any info much appreciated thanks.

Mrs has one, thrashes it round most evenings....😆
Sorry, apologies. Basically an air-con type of machine, chills the air to remove moisture. Rentable from the big boys. There's some on "the bay", depends on your throughput.
Surprised, as you say say "small sandblaster", that a reasonably sized pressure cylinder, in-line, with some filtration wouldn't suffice...?
I call them sandblasters too, but wouldn't use sand of course 🙂

Try asking in the dairy section of the forum, all the robot milkers use some form of drier on their compressed air, we have an atlas copco one about the size of a mini fridge, a condenser drier, has been working non stop for last 12 years, other types are available

How big a problem is it on a day with low RH?

I had thought that on a warm dry summers day it would be ok although I have never used it myself, however on days like that we probably have better things to do than sandblasting!

Before you start blasting run the compressor with all hoses connected, valves open & deadman valve open for at least 10 mins to warm the pot. Coil up a length of hose & put in a tank of cold water to cool the air before the moisture separator. Use a good quality separator like a PCL dropout filter. This will substantially reduce moisture in your air.

What this fella says 👍🏼 Extra long hose between compressor and pot helps cool the air as well.
I also have a 0.5mm hole drilled in the bottom of my moisture separator so it constantly empty’s.
