i got wagner 90 power painter. bought it on facebook for £500. only a few months old. i clean it out with water first then just put a bit of thinners through it after. if your going to buy one make sure it has a piston pump and not a diaphram pump as they dont like oil bassed paints im told. herd of someone buy a diaphram one for £2000 and they couldn't do any thing with it

I used my Wagner 350M on saturday for spraying red oxide oil based paint.

- pulled some xylene thinner through to start with, just to make sure the ball valves were good
- primed up with paint easily enough after that, pulling from the bottom of a 20l bucket. No thinning down.
- The thing is a beast, it's a revelation after using gravity feed spray guns. The rate at which it can put down paint is incredible, and so controllable!
- cleaning out again after was a pain, make sure you have 3 spare buckets, around a gallon of solvent as well as usual rags etc.
- I used pure xylene thinner as solvent, since i didn't want acetone near the seals. time will tell whether this was a good choice or not. Something started leaking out of one of the pump fittings as I was cleaning, i didn't have time to investigate at the time, hopefully just needing tightened up.

It's a high end DIY setup and not a professional one, but it has a metal piston pump and seemed to work great. If it doesn't break down it'll be a great investment.

Not worth the hassle for painting less than 5 litres at a time, though!

Very interesting thread this.. I run a YouTube channel, helping and motivating Professionals and DIYers to use various forms of spraying, including Airless.. Mainly from a decorative perspective, but I do have contacts selling Graco / Wagner / TriTech for industrial applications.. I’d like to help, I’m not selling anything.. just passionate about spraying.. My channel is PaintHQ, and my name is Pete

Sorry to hijack this thread, but would an airless paint sprayer be capable of spraying limewash/whitewash on to old stone walls on the farm yard?

i wouldn't have thought so, but i could be wrong. with limewash you would tend to mix it quite thick for it to be a good job

airless sprayers Los Angeles

I'm buying an airless sprayer because of all of the large painting and staining projects I have in my future.

I was going to buy the Graco X7 after seeing the Idaho painter on Youtube review it. I understand that it is a consumer grade tool. While shopping for the X7, I noticed the ProX17 and thought oooohhh ahhhhh, more expensive, must be better and more "pro" grade.

One reviewer said that the tip was limited to a .017" and I'd like to know what practical limitations that translates into.

I know there are true professional grade sprayers around $1k but I can't really justify it.

Given my budget, would you guys recommend the ProX17 over the X7?

Does the cart justify the higher price on the X17? Does it make it easier to use with 5 gallon buckets? I notice that the cart allows for hose storage.

Can I run a short hose on these machines so that I don't waste a lot of paint if I'm rolling a room or spraying cabinets? Or is there any way to collect the paint left in the hose?

Thanks for any advice!

A .019 or .021 tip is better for thicker acrylic paints and even bigger for elastomeric coatings. You need volume to use a bigger tip like that. The hose doesn't hold much paint, the professional sprayers seem to have bigger suction hoses and filter housings that take more paint to change. You can flush out the paint with water, and shut it off when the paint thins, you'll get some thinner paint, but I've never noticed an issue for what I do.

I'd look for a used sprayer, and see what parts are available. Here, it's not hard to find a professional sprayer for $100 or $150, and a complete new pump can be installed in ten minutes for $250, so you have functional sprayer for $400 IF it needs a new pump, seal kits are much cheaper obviously.

anyone ever use one of these handheld airless sprayers https://www.graco.com/us/en/contractor/product/17m359-ultra-corded.html

was thinking it could really speed things up when painting, would it eliminate going around the edges with a small brush,
Ye sit is designed for the professional contractor, the Graco Ultra Corded airless handheld paint sprayer 17M359 is ideal for small indoor and outdoor projects. The user guide for the 17M359 Ultra sprayer is available from the official Graco website. You can read that as i did

No two tubs are the same in my experience, sometimes it’s thin sometimes it needs thinning, airless can take far thicker paint than a spray gun, your still needing thinners to clean the sprayer so if it won’t spray just thin it a little.
