Aitchison vs Simtech

Whats the big difference between the Simtech and the NZ Aitchison?

I'm fancying something with a tine for a few jobs (OSR/ brassicas) and a few other jobs. Don't really need a lot as the 750 will be doing 80% of the drilling and I'm happy with that so wondering if an aitchison grassland may do the job. Don't need a big hopper.

Wouldnt rule it out. Can find many c0 about at moment

I think the main difference is the tine spacing and the stagger between rows.

The Aitchison is a good drill, I like the closer row spacing but beware, if you have one stone in your paddock it will find it, T boots are supposed to be made of Ni Hard carbon steel but they are actually made of glass and at $80 a pop well, put it this way, I won’t be buying another Aitchison!

In case anyone is thinking of trying a Simtech, I have a T.sem 3.43 air drill for sale. I have changed it for a 3m weaving GD which I can use with a smaller tractor and plan to find a 3m SimTech box drill for the jobs I would rather do with a tine drill. I'll have go at putting an add with some pics up. The 3.43 is wide enough to takeout 20x38 duals but still ok to carry about our farm, ok on 6145 JD but not much smaller. We fitted a short tyre packer in front of the discs which firms the land between the wheels so the drill can be run with floating top link.

I dont know if you get Duncan ag drills in your area but in my opinion definitely better than aitchison. The aitchison struggle to plant fine seed on its own. I have a 22 and 28 row Aitchison. Bought a Duncan TFD model and just signed for a 28 row Duncan MK4. The metering unit on the duncan is a lot more accurate than that of the Aitchison. I now only use my Aitchison for ryegrass and oats. Lucerne, chicory, clovers etc all go through the Duncan. Duncan's tines are also stronger and last better in rocks than the Aitchison.

That's what I've gathered from what's been written on the forum.

Would being trailed help a Duncan follow the ground better as well ?
Kev the revs got one I think.
Job to find a place to buy one and supply parts is part of the practical problem.

I feel the trailed ones do better yes.
