Aldi sells more British free-range eggs than any other UK supermarket, according to the latest data from Kantar.
Almost 200 million free-range eggs were purchased at Aldi, over the 12 weeks to June 9 – the largest amount of any UK retailer.
All Aldi eggs are British Lion Code approved. The retailer also said it implements long-term contracts for its egg suppliers, with the aim of providing them with certainty and security to continue to invest and grow their businesses.
Managing director of buying at Aldi, Julie Ashfield, said: “British suppliers are integral to Aldi’s success, and the long-term relationships we’ve formed with our UK egg farmers are something we take great pride in.
“Becoming the largest provider of free-range eggs is a great achievement which wouldn’t have been possible without these brilliant suppliers, who continue to work with us to put animal welfare first.”
Last month, Aldi was named Britain’s favourite supermarket, according to polling data from YouGov for the three months to June 2024.
YouGov’s ‘Most Popular Supermarket Chains (Q2 2024)’ results showed that Aldi sits at 78% popularity, with Lidl just behind on the same percentage.
Popularity is the percentage of people who have a positive opinion of a supermarket chain.
M&S follows Aldi and Lidl at 76% popularity, then Sainsbury’s at 73%, the Co-op at 72%, Morrisons at 72% and Tesco and Asda at 70%.
Aldi has maintained its leading position since July 2023.
Communications director at Aldi, Richard Thornton, said:
“At Aldi, we’re all about offering high quality products at prices that can’t be beaten so it’s great to see British shoppers choose us as their favourite supermarket once again.”
