That answers that question
It can do as much as you want to,got my dad one ,it controls his TV ,tells him weather ,what day time ,sets reminders .I can talk to him thru it ,and he can send messages to me thru it ,it works as a radio, plays music to your taste ,so no it doesn't for much

Mothers got 2... She's bad on her feet. So one switches the bedside lamp on and off by controlling the socket when she tells it.. It'll tell her the time in the night the weather etc and play the radio in the morning.
The Other one she has turns a lamp on in the lounge although her Christmas tree lights are plugged into the socket it controls it at the moment. She'll play music and the Radio on it aswell.

I've got one, Used for Radio when I'm working , Music and reminders as it'll ping my phone. I can control sockets off it aswell if we are not here.

They have there uses can be used as a communication device between rooms or houses. As said can do lights make coffee. Set reminders, radio.

You need the app which is free to set up and I have spotify for music.

Needs wifi but apart from that nothing else now have 3 in the house.

Kids love them

Basically, it does a lot of things remotely that you could do manually.

I have one, I find it handy but could certainly live without it. The more I use it the more handy I find it.

When I come through in the morning I ask it for the news, it will tell me the weather for the day and the latest news headlines. It currently turns on my outside lights at sunset and off again at sunrise, unless I tell it otherwise. It also controls the xmas lights on the tree in the yard and the lights on the outside of the house. Good if you are away on holiday, you can set "routines" for lights to turn on and off. You can even turn lights on from your phone when you are away should you forget to set a routine

It is situated in our kitchen so my wife uses it as a radio or to stream music from our spotify account/listen to one of her podcasts. She also finds it handy for creating shopping lists. When we run out of something in the house you can ask it to add the item to the shopping list. When my wife goes to the shop she can open up the app and see the up to date shopping list, great if everyone in the house updates the list when they finish something.

My mother in law is partially blind so struggles to set/see her alarm clock, I recently bought her an alexa so she can ask it to set an alarm and tell it to stop when it goes off. Ive set the lights up in the house so she can switch them on from her bed in the morning when its dark, its an old house and the switches for the bedroom/hallway/kitchen aren't best placed for someone hard of sight. She also listens to audiobooks before she goes to sleep.

Shes totally sold on it.

Listening device. Big brother is watching us. None in our house.

Same could be said for mobile phones though. Was speaking to my wife about life insurance, next day she gets a email about it.
Exactly, everybody used to go on about having something listening to you all the time yet had a mobile in their pocket/sitting on coffee table.

My OH has one, it came here with her :ROFLMAO: She has it for free as her son has amazon prime.

I can manage without it but I do find it good for music. Walk in the door and just ask for a song, artist or even just a genre and she plays.

My daughter generally makes alexa fart or asks her for help with homework. She asked her if she could whisper this morning and alexa gave a humorous reply...

Silly question time...

How can you make it control lights and the like in your house? Surely you need to physically press a switch?
Alexa will control either the "smart" bulb or "smart" switch. The bulb or switch need to be able to link in to the house WiFi network so you do need to replace either the bulb or switch
