wifi enabled socket on the router, if the kids are to busy playing fornite to come for tea, then its "alexa turn off the internet"

I have a light set to come on at dusk until 1am. lights up a dark corner and acts as a bit of a burglar deterrent. Im going to fit similar to outside light and do away with the unreliable movement sensor

socket on electric blanket, "alexa heat up the bedroom dept"

Listening device. Big brother is watching us. None in our house.

Same could be said for mobile phones though. Was speaking to my wife about life insurance, next day she gets a email about it.

Yep
Went into somewhere for a browse
Phone in pocket
Within an hour I am bombarded with ads for similar items in shop
Location tags were switched off

Very spooky

Phone stays in car now, when in town

Don't want MI5 tracking me, in the butchers and bakers [emoji23][emoji43][emoji85]

The bulbs and switches etc are very expensive. My brother in law gave us one for Christmas last year and for most people I would say it's a total gimmick, never used. Roll on this year and we got another one☹️. "You can link it to the other one!" He said. His wife uses theirs to control thermostat, lights radio the lot. By the size of her I'd say bin the Alexa and get off her lazy arse.

A friend was asking me about gravelling his driveway last week, that night an advert came up on facebook on my iPad, it's all very fecked up imo.

I can understand for disabilities like in the adverts, they look very useful.

I've never got a smart bulb to work probably. The Sockets work a treat straight away.
We've got an adaptor that fits before the first light or a run, or a socket. I think the electrician said they were £10 each, then you can control the lights and sockets through an app, and setup schedules for when you're away.

I'd use them now rather than have outside lights on timers or light sensors.

Mine came as a sitting tenant with a Fire tablet. I don't use her, if I want to know if it's raining I look out of the window. She keeps appearing when I least expect her, if I don't talk to she she sulks and I need to reboot to get rid of her. There are pages on Google of peoples attempts to get rid of her.Her sister works for Garmin, I do try and use her but her hearing is a bit dicky and she tries to send me to Stowe or Bolton when I want to go home.

Any Welsh members on here with one? We really fancy one but little one likes the ‘Car Canu’ series on youtube from S4C and from googling we would have to set Alexa up with another bluetooth paired device to stream youtube and Welsh music.

Doesn’t that remove the ability to turn it back on via Alexa?

it does unless you have two wifi networks, alexa can turn off the range extender network . turning back on is simple though there is a manual on/off on the wifi plug.

my mesh wifi would allow me to group devices and turn of the wifi to only that group, but that could only be done through the app and I cant be bothered.

another use is a wifi socket on the satellite tv box so you can give it a on/off cycle when it freezes, without messing about with the horror of cables behind the telly

Ye gods, it sounds like that annoying disembodied voice on my mate's car that tells him when he hasn't fastened his seat belt -- only a heap of a lot worse! People actually pay money for that?

Given one when daughter upgraded, now I know when anyone comes to her house. Didn't like its evesdropping so it's powered off now until I can find enough points in its favour.

It is good for calculations and multiple timers when there's a lot on the stove, cheap multi room music if that's your buzz although it's a bit clunky to instruct.

in laws just got the video one which is quite good I thought for watching prime video's etc whilst having a quick sandwich or whatever.
