Alkalage?

Anyone here got any experience with alkalage? I usually ag bag my wholecrop but am quite interested in trying alkalage from home ‘n’ dry. Any thoughts?

Very good feed but water is it’s enemy. We gave up making it as we had to store it in an outside clamp. If we had an inside clamp we would definitely go back to it. Vermin don’t bother it bit they still chew through the sheet to see what’s under it and that lets the rain water in which is where we came upon issues. Yes it’s not cheap but in my opinion it’s worth the cost. My only other advice would be to leave the crop until it’s fit to combine then when clamping it do not roll it.

Agbag be ok?

The challenge when agbagging this material is that you don't want to compress it too much - the home n dry forms a gas which has to be able to permeate through all the material in order to do its work. I've done it in trial quantities and it kept fine and fed well but I think it might work out a bit expensive for large amounts.

Worth saying -I only have a small (5 foot) bagger - maybe with the bigger 8 foot machines it might work out better.

Never had anything to do with ag baggers so not able to answers your question, nor do I know of anyone who does ag bag alkalage, but am sure as said above someone will.
