We buffer all year round with maize but we did run out mid August and didn’t cut until mid October and don’t graze any harder than normal , I suppose the only difference this year we did house all the fresh calvers from early September so that could explain it plus I do live on the farm now from end October and do all the night checks
We don't feed maize but hear alot of anecdotal evidence of better preg rates conception rates etc when maize starch has become more digestible after Xmas etc. We always noticed a dip in fertility at grass, think it's just to inconsistent

Top job though [emoji122]

Didn't have a chance to take a pic when we turned them out as they were out of the starting blocks like it was the Grand National and we were too busy running after them. Lucky they didn't try any fences but correctly ran through the first field to the next one, they did baulk at the water (in the gateway - it was flooded last week) and turned back but we managed to get them in.

Snuck down later to check all was well without disturbing them. 22 in calf heifers, thank God we haven't got them to bed down any more Just so glad to get something out at last!

Only rolled it because the holding pen is in the wood in between 2 fields , and last back end when we fetched the heifers home , I left a few ruts across the field with the trailer .
