How do people put out calves without them going crazy and breaking every row of wire within a mile radius??
Make sure they are hungry so they keen to eat. We let ours stand outside in a yard for half a day before turning them out. Think i read on here once that letting them out in the dark works but not brave enough to try that.

We've got some smart fences from gallagher, 4 strands electified. Show them a wire in the shed before they go out, then get plenty of people to stand behind the fences while they run around like loons and find the boundaries. They settled within an hour this year and I've only had one get out since. This lot are about 5 weeks old and fed on a trailer feeder.

Looks good, what posts do you use with the wires?

I'm quite keen to get a kiwitech system for calves, a very similar design, but with the ability to make longer breaks (y)

I find once they spend a month or so a single wire knee height is reasonably successful, although I get the occasional calf that just will not behave.

Yes, later on I just use the smart fence between groups and use a single wire at the front of paddock to strip graze. The odd one jumps out but I have a good dog!

100m is a bit short but you can run them together and it makes them light to carry.
