All things Dairy

It will be the time to do it if your happy with the long term prospects and can stomach the capatial required. Potentially deals to be had with equipment, stock and construction labour may be easier to find.
I’ve been on it for a bit now only stumbling block with this carry on for me is construction side.

Taken today, Barndale Benson, his 11th birthday next week.

Been here as our stock bull for over 9 years. Sweeps the heifers in a straw yard from Christmas until end March (not expecting him to find any by end Feb, but he is ''safe' in there while we AI the cows). He has been standing patiently by the gate every day for about a month, he knows where to go next. This photo taken whilst he waited for Prince Pooper to re-fasten the gate before we walked him to the cows.

Now with the milkers on concrete and grass until end May, then out to grass with the i/c heifers / dry cows until next December. He is an absolute star and has sired some lovely calves. Will have his feet trimmed in the next couple of months and did start an inter-digital growth a few years ago and went lame on us but doesn't bother him since we got his feet back in order. Just a bit of a squash getting him in the foot trimming crush. Is not over worked, but does what we want him to.

Previous bull got hit by a Jeep when he got out at night , broke his leg and had to be put down.

Is this fine looking chap, responsible for the bent out of shape gates in the background of the 1st picture

farmers have been saying the milk job needs sorting out, for sure, this is going to take some sorting out, unbelievable how the mkt can collapse, like this, but, it shouldn't be to long, for the market to sort it's self out, coffee shops will re-open, air lines will restart, weddings, conferences, and funerals will restart, those markets lost, should mostly return, but to try and sort the present mess out, is beyond me, hopefully the guv will step in, will the banks be helpful ? Would you trust the bank ?
It is obviously worrying other facets of the farming trade, both ourselves, and a neighbour, have been talking new tractors, neither of us are to keen, with this fiasco, and how it will effect all milk producers, well, the rep rung us today, knocking £3500, off his 'final' quote.
Sat here, I've a job to really understand the speed, this shitty virus, has completely changed the world from only a few weeks ago, we have no idea when, or even if, some degree of normality will return, how does one plan for the future, it has changed, how do you plan to get through this, when you don't know how long it will last, and when, finally over, what will be life like then ? I'd sort of breezed through it a bit, more inconveniences, than problems, but with boris out, reading potter tonight, and posts on here, it brings it home a bit, and it's really scary.

Hopeful some yard time will reduce the R1’s blend consumption. We’re trying them on ad-lib to reduce work load with staff off etc so far they’re eating about 8kg a day  I’m hopeful they’ll settle to more like 5 for a month or two. If not the bags will have to be back out.

That would feed nearly 5 of my cows per day. Wowzers.
