we bought some really nice hay, for the dairy, mediocre hay for later use, broke a mediocre bale, put into cows, chomped it up just the same !
How long will that heap last 4 or 5 days? When the only green thing your cows eat is hay! View attachment 884005
No longer milk from forage, more like milk from the cheque book. ???View attachment 884006

We are probably a bit more inland than you. It barely damped the dust for half and hour with us either. Quite disappointing.????? nowt
We had tractors going through winnards perch and it was proper wet, so your inlaws will be happyWe are probably a bit more inland than you. It barely damped the dust for half and hour with us either. Quite disappointing.
Rumor has it some escaped and spent the night out on the tiles. They are! They are that green and alive still that one tried to jump out
Couldn't stick the night. An afternoon on the tiles was well enoughRumor has it some escaped and spent the night out on the tiles.
Would imagine theyll only need to put the wrapper on at the dairyOnly thing they will fire up is the bulk tank paps
I'm hoping that is a positive to come from all this. Were just shy of 5%. Could 10kgdm hay make that 6%?Would imagine theyll only need to put the wrapper on at the dairy
Yeah. Spoke to them this evening. Said it was wet but not sure how much good it’s done. Think he is a bit unsure how it’s going to go with more mouths to feed again. We had tractors going through winnards perch and it was proper wet, so your inlaws will be happy

Yep and likes to be seen too often aswellLooks a big ol' hoof
Clog on? I'm still in the learning stages of cow feet. Hardly had to touch my sucklers. 15of the heifers from the heard I bought all had there feet lifted not long after arrival to revile soul ulcers, same place/claw/foot on them all. Still finding odd ones. Assume/hope it was something at their old home.Found a stone ? then a sole ulcer ?View attachment 884518View attachment 884519
Not on this one enough height to use and modelled our well. Just watch sharp turns into and away from parlour. I put rubber matting on exit from parlour and it made a huge difference.Clog on? Run them through foot baths with only water in twice a day.I'm getting an unusual number of cows slipping and falling in the cowshed over the last few weeks. The concrete is grooved and seems OK. Cow's feet may be hard due to the dry weather but had no problem two years ago when it was much drier for longer than so far this year.
