after all this recent rain, cut a few acres for bales, very disappointed, grass grown up, for seed. Ground beneath is still bone dry, i know we missed a lot of rain, but this is ridiculous, going to retest soils again, can't see its all weather related, and can't see, that we are making a hash of drilling it. The kale for winter grub, has bulked right up, the forage rape, for now, is very patchy, makes forward planning rather difficult !!

Are the ones laid sideways staying put ?
Others may have better experiences but We have one section with some laid sideways. The cows hate them.
They are pig slats not sleepers. The ones on the side have been damaged so are shorter and ruin the run a bit, so thought we’d sit them there for a little extra width.
What widths are people’s tracks? That is 2m without the side pieces.

soak away, basically, we don't have effluent, no problem for 30 years, these days you should not get it. I do wonder, now his 'boss' has explained a few things, we could get away with a smaller tank, 18000 litres is a big tank, till this visit, he would have wanted to measure it !

Ok. We just farm in very different climates then. You find it hard to make silage with effluent. I find it hard to make it without. Have seen us with effluent after conditioner mowing spread flat behind mower, and two teds. One word. Humidity. There's effluent flying out of a neighbour's second cut this year.

Just read an article from AHDB Dairy saying the average price for Continental X bull calf was higher than the average price for both Hereford X and Dairy bull calves for the last 5 years.

Who knew that?!

Service is finally over. 👍
We served just over 16% in the last three weeks.
so the waiting until August 28th begins. I won’t be watching the cows between now and then to see how many I think are empty...... honestly I won’t!
You should be single figure mt rates with those figures, all si or bulls to finish off.

Anybody else having trouble with Genus beef bull choice? We're sucklers only but have had no Simmental available a fortnight ago and now no Angus. I know Duster got recalled ahead of repricing, but not sure if the rest is a local round problem or further up the supply chain?
