Did you see what the organic bullers made? Was going to come down as could do with a few for this year but too busy in the end
£480 to £710 most nearer the top end. i/c hfrs £1400 to £780, would have averaged over £1000, running with the bull £ 810 to £ 660, again most near top end. The non organic bulling hfrs, £710 to £ 480, again, most top end, yearlings £500 ish. Our box came home empty ! The organic cattle had some age, several being 2017 born. The herd sold very well ! Son only went down, to complete a deal on some autumn calvers, which looked very good, on the mkt trade ! Would have liked some bullers, but not at that price.

Plenty on the market I’m sure something will come up at a reasonable price.

not to fussed, have enough aut calvers now, and have some bullers, as you rightly say, something will turn up, the trick is, being in the right place, at the right time ! But, it does concern me, that number coming onto the mkt, and the strong money ! The dairy trade is, red hot, those going out, or so i am told, is driven by, age, and no succession, and state of buildings/parlour, if they need a serious up-grade....!

I saw some pictures of the bullers and they looked fairly big so I guessed they were older which dropped my interest a fair bit

I went flea beetle hunting in the kale this morning and I was cursing idiots releasing lanterns a balloons while I was winding all the string up from this.View attachment 899616

Then I got to the other end of the string and found this

I'm going to try putting it under my garden sprinkler and see if the forecast changes to rain.
There is yards of fine cord on those balloons!
Wouldn't like to see any stock get tangled or injest it.
Put it in an envelope with no stamp and send it back 🤣

A 3 year old buller ain’t going to calve at 3 though!!
there was 1 that was 3 yr old , it has been running with the bull.
Some would have culled them if NIC some run them on. depends on disease status, TB status etc.

Seen 3 yr old stock that weren't even fit to bull size wise once. Was a 22 months Holstein on same sale calved that was twice the height!

The only dairy semen with in the next 5 years will only be sexed, which if used heavily will produce a surplus of heifers for sure but there is a group of advisors that recommend flyBig herds so these soon take up any surplus. Tb is also a big issue.
Everyone uses to much sexed the first year but only the first year the glut will be beef calves heifer numbers will be fairly static imo.

there was 1 hfr, last year, that went through the ring, just topped 5 yrs, and made serious money. Farmers will happily tell you, you have to calve hfrs at 24 months, but wont bid for them, they always go for size ! It's always worth checking age to lactations, makes interesting reading ! Holstiens, will milk on, for an extended lactation, different story with some of the xbreds.
