All things Dairy

That's more like it. I don't want to come on here just to see pictures of my own cows that I see far too much of on a day to day basis anyway.

ps @ cowabunga I think your calf shed might need mucking out. Either that or you're keeping them in a hobbit hole with a 5 foot high door!

Ha! They have been moved now to the loose housing shed. Hopefully they will be going out to graze next week on silage aftermath. Weather permitting. They are a bit taller now than in the picture.

You wouldn't want to have to stop in a hurry if you were towing that one full of milk.

Are you keeping calves in the poly tunnel in the background?

Yeap we've got two tunnels one for the calves and the other for young bulls. Great to work in but can get too cold for the baby's in the winter so we have jackets for them

I have poly film stretched over a wooden frame for my calves but I worry they get a bit hot at times.

I only put it up last spring and had planned to give them yarded area outside so they had more options for temperature control but I never got around to it. They are mostly out now (spring calving) and the plan for next year is to build or buy a 50 teat trailed feeder and get them out even sooner.

We built it ourselves and the sheet isn't as tight as I'd like on a couple of bays. I was really amazed to see it was still there when I went out some mornings this winter.

We built our tunnels ourselves got a pipe bender from Northern tools or screw fix i think. The tunnels are surrounded by trees so they get plenty if shade in the summer. I'll get a picture when I muck them out sometime soon.

How about this for a home made feeder
