All things Dairy

Bit light on the shed price I would have thought, looks like its 180 x 100 ish with a lean too, probably going to be nearer 100k

Wesley, have you thought about using a generator? There is a guy not far from here bought a generator to run his dairy unit as he doesn't have a connection
Those sheds are non ce marked made from 5inch steel. .there 9ft tall, its frightning how little steel is in them

Long story...started trying to sort out electric last May, turned out the person from WPD doing the work was signed off on permanent sick leave & hadn’t actually done anything towards it despite implying she had. To make matters worse no one took on her work, monitored her email or phone/answerphone. Then all the covid, very busy etc excuses came. The manager couldn’t organise a p’ up in a brewery. After months & months of chasing & countless calls we’ve not long had a quote & the paperwork to sign.
Had a change of builder after turning up 6 months late & not being happy with a few things so only really started building last April. Would’ve been September startup If we had electric. It plays on your mind a bit, its been a long struggle.
Sick of the covid excuse’s here, all it’s meant the whole way through is things take 10 times longer. Certainly looks like it’ll be worth the wait @Wesley

Anyone else had horned calves out of Oakchurch Darcy? Got a 20m horned steer out of a Pp Hfd x BB suckler. We had 2 heifers served the same day to Angus, one Darcy, one to ABS Espresso. Espresso calf is polled out of same bred Pp heifer.

Unsure whether there might be a chance straws got switched? Don't really know if there's lim or other blood added in the ABS side of things for calf value

I’ve a espresso bull calf at the moment looks to have horn stumps only 2 month old, that’s first one out of 50 - 60 calves

Back out again only on half an acre for now, been a long old winter - total of 28 days inside not bad for being rubbish!
Royal Cornwall might not be such a stretch after all, she's due in April so would be 2 months fresh 🙈 going to treat myself to some new waterproofs today as I think mine have given up!

If you could use the water trough in another shed I would 110% go for stainless with a bung. I’ve those tipping galv ones never keep clean enough imo
Completely agree, but thats one of four that came out the original shed. They’ll be replaced with stainless as soon as they start to rust out (which i’m sure won’t be long). It’s a bit of a cost cutting exercise after finding out the price of stainless.
