All things Dairy

Well done on all the heifer calves you keep getting but breeding replacements out of a cow that took 8 services may have something to do with your ever growing kill list you mentioned as your breeding poor fertility
We've learnt this lesson, it does run in the family's of cows
Already got an 2nd calver out of this cow and she has held first time as an heifer and first time after she calved so will have to see

A fifth of the UK population have low Vitamin D levels. Asda launches fresh milk fortified with Vit D. Developed & bottled at Arla Aylesbury .

I don't know if anyone else is on the ARLA Facebook page but there's a closed group for ARLA members and I suggested that ARLA should be doing vit D milk ages ago.

I suggested they call it 'winter milk'

I suspect this has been under development for years and has nothing to do with my suggestion but in my own mind I'll take a little credit for it.

Can you suggest Milk from Grazed Cows......quite honestly, I would double what I pay for my milk to buy this, but needs to be in glass bottles and on my doorstep........but haven't found it near me. You may appreciate I don't buy on price..........and would probably have to restrict my intake to 6 months of the year!
Seriously, where can I buy such milk?

Our local dairy cotteswold dairy in Gloucestershire. Is promoting it's free range dairy with milk from grazing cow's. Have a Google for free range dairy for tour area. You might find something.

Double wouldn't be enough - the supermarkets (with the willing cooperation of the major diaries) have spent the last 20 years dismantling the infrastructure for daily recyclable glass deliveries. [emoji15]

Unless you are lucky enough to be served by a niche dairy.

When quotas were introduced one of the ways of circumventing the rules was to sell flavoured milk. Vitamin D was not a flavouring but Vitamin E was but in the quantities required was too costly.

What's the attraction with glass bottles.

It's all part of the experience - making milk an experience is an important part of making it a desirable foodstuff.

I think glass bottles have been abandoned because of hygiene issues. Something reused cannot be guaranteed to be clean. FSA are not particularly keen on them.

They get returned - they don't fill my waste/recycling bin.
Milk tastes better out of glass bottles, rather than plastic. However, would like a creamline too.
Delivered on the doorstep [I'm sure plastic is too....], don't have to lug it home; open the door in the morning and voila....like magic!
No idea what I pay/pint, but wouldn't change my doorstep delivery.............ever!
