we had 3 ir's, first problem for 10 years+ We pre movement tested some calves, sold private treaty, through auctioneers, lorry booked to take them to mart, to offload, to go further. Mart rung up, don't bring them, night before, chap hasn't paid us yet ! Next day, letter, cow at abattoir gone down. So herd test, the 3 irs, 2 bulls and I/c hfr, all come bach no vis lesions, cow came back negative, reading 1st 60 day test tomorrow, everything xed, next 60 day mid jan, just before we start calving. But what a load of hassle, paperwork, pile nearly 1'' thick. I have friends shut down, the extra work/stock, the 'antis' haven't got a clue what its like. I friend has gone clear, in the last 20 yrs, he has only had dozen orange mkts,, and he now fattens everything, He's in a cull zone, and now has no badgers. says it all.

So we had our 12 months Tb test last week 1 reactor and 6 ir had a letter today saying that they have changed the reading to severe and now they want to take 5. So bloody frustrating. Has anyone else had this? Had 4 ir last year and they went clear on second test.
We had similar issues, no cows gone off for tb in the last 10 years, had 7 reactors 24 irs under normal, then rang back putting us under severe, 24 reactors and 24 irs, no lesions in the 24 and they are only putting 10 samples on for culture,

our break down, which made us keep the calves, has another twist, said auctioneer, rang us, and asked if we would be interested in some out of sync cows coming in, transport not a problem, knew the farm, had cows from there before - this was 10 days before our 'off' movement, said yes, told him his limit, was what we were going to get for the calves, so we ended up with 10 more cows, and the 25 hfr calves as well
I did ask min, if they would come straight in with the gamma test, idea being to get the job 'done', and not to be #issing around with 1' and 2's, but they wouldn't. At least we will have plenty of hfrs about, if we go down big time.

I had one I’d to tube for 5 days last week. I gave it 1 litre milk along with one litre warm water fur two feeds and it sucked on the third. Theory was that it isn’t get much milk but still won’t be dehydrated with the water. Maybe it was just luck and the rascal just decided it was ready to suck

theres something they do with foals that dont get up and suckle, cant for the life of me remember what they call it, its like the natural mechanism in the body hasn't kicked in. So they tie up the foal and leave it for 10 minuites, then undo the ropes, its like kick starting the system, like they have been born, so gone from a small tight space into the big wide world.

Edit. put this in your search engine,

madigan foal squeeze on calves

Yep, vet job. Squeeze the calve with ropes, then release
