the small bullers looking rather sweaty after yesterday’s AI. Bulls going in tomorrow. 63 synced. 2 the tech felt weren’t bulling. Fingers crossed for a similarly good scanning off the back of it.

planning to leave the bulls in for 6 weeks before they go back to sweep the milkers then finish up with some Yak semen.

Why yak? Thought they found conception rates to be shockingly bad?

I need to do a little more digging but spoke with a few that were happy enough. Failing that then short gestation jersey. But it’s hood to be different.
Two herds I know tried it, had conception rates below 20% and calves were given away as they were organic and couldn't shot them, personally now going to sell anything on not in calf in first three week ( have surplus of heifers, unless tb changes that) as finded them slipping the fastest out of the block, we seem to work hard to get the poor fertility animal's in calf for them to be expensive to get In calf every time.

Surely if they had a service you would hope 50% incalf bulls for 6 weeks should get all the rest, any empty after that should be going fat up the road, never had a poor fertility heifer ever go to make a fertile cows, always end up costing.

I know it will tighten the block but what do you plan on doing with the yak or Jersey calves
[/QUOTE

nothing leaves here straight to killing in. Rough grazing and in the freezer they go if needs be

Sorry wasn’t very clear. Bulls will go back to serve the cows IE were serving heifers one shot of AI bulls for 6 weeks then we’ll review what we’ve got pd + and ship out anything empty or serve to sell. Very much agree regarding poor fertility heifers.

Has anyone done the medicine master class for the Red tractor.
When your farm vet gives you a course to do so that you can get a certificate to use farm drugs for your livestock.
Yes, our vets did a course on using medicines ( how to read a label, fill a syringe, inject an orange etc.) bit of a waste of time, but got a pretty certificate to show farm assurance.

Also done MILK SURE training, which was a lot more relevant and interesting.
