Thought we were aiming for 80% incalf with in six weeks, so never quite understood how the 90% to calf in six week unless you induced (which nobody does) or use short gestation bulls which we have but don't think I could gain 10% though, so any thing above 80% is top operator (y)
Empties leave and in calf heifers come in. 80% target? in calf in 6weeks out of all your eligible cows, the 90% figure is out of everything in calf at start of calving.

100 cows start of mating, 80 in calf in 6 weeks, 15 over the next 5 weeks, 5 mt. cull another 10% for mastitis, lame, deaths etc so at start of calving you have 72 cows due in 6 weeks plus 18 of your 20 in calf heifers (90%of them got in calf in 6 weeks)= 90 calvings from 100 animals

Doable as some people may get 85% and 95% in calf in 6 weeks but pretty good going if you can do that every year I’d say

My own theory is it doesn’t suit high yielding cows.

What we found was that they loved the beet - so much so that they were spending all their time at the rail trying to access it and sorting through the TMR for lumps. Now it's no longer there, and our TMR is more basic with rape expellor and Trafford gold, they can't sort so eat and then go & lie down.
Be interesting to see if the milk stabilises, rises or goes down.
Of course there may well be other factors at play too but this was the obvious change
