we have had 2 serious foot infections, no obvious reason, and definitely not nice, even the vet couldn't suggest much difference to our treatment, a/b trim bandages, we shot the more holstien one friday, the friesian suddenly responded, and back in the herd, that's the difference between the 2 breeds. I can now remember why we stopped feeding cows on kale, into december, it's a bloody good mess up there, and that is really dry ground.

Not really the "more holstien" cows fault. More the fault of her environment.

Can you not see why the lady in the village targets you? By your own admission its a "bloody mess" up in the kale. Then come here and tell the world how you shot a cow because you kept her out in a mess too long.
I mean, admire your way of telling the truth but......

our mess, is probably replicated throughout the country, where ever cattle are outwintered, and it's no wonder the public think it's awful, most of us would agree on the visual side. Ours are on some really dry ground, others around here are not, cattle up to their guts in mud, do not look good. As to the crippled cows, neither us, nor the vet, could find a reason, or suggest better treatment, the post was just highlighting the difference between the two types, and were both heading towards the lead injection, but the fr just responded, rapidly, i also suspect we are much quicker, with that lead injection, we do not wait for the knackerman, than the majority of farmers, and both cows were autumn calvers, not out on kale. Any animal that looks 'wrong' outside, is quickly brought in, we are anal about welfare, we have experienced the other side, and didn't like it, so, sick animal, treat, not responding, vet advice, no response, bang, which i try and point out whenever i can, by doing that route, we are fully legally protected. I would have no hesitation to show any sensible person, our livestock, with no warning, beforehand,

I know, that's why i said sensible, those 'people' would never say anything was 'allright' to do with animal welfare. It's a losing battle with them, and i cannot see a way to alter their views, and they are much 'smarter' at presenting 'their' case. That's why we have the protocol, treat, no response within 48 hrs, vet advice, even if over the phone, again no response, lead injection, doing that, you have satisfied the legal requirements, and by having that protection, you can even claim damages, not that i would even want to go down that route, unless absolutely necessary.
