Got a 30 hear old keenan feeding 3kgdm maize with cows coming in on the batt-latchmust be nice to run a simple system.
We turn out gradually 1 hr 1st day, 2 hrs second etc ., until up to 10 am - 3.45 pm. They still get silage, fodder beet, maize/soya blend and cake. Then after a week at that, we change to straight after morning milking (8am) and cut the goodies by half but they still get silage all night and some goodies. Then after another week ro so its out at night and no goodies just parlour cake. So they are still getting silage and some extra fibre from the fodder beet for a few weeks yet (not out at all yet, another week or so).it is indeed rocket fuel, but, with the speed it passes through the cow, how much of it is actually utilised by the cow ? The looseness of the dung at turnout, if seen during the winter when housed, would mean a rapid change of the diet, yet at turnout, we ignore it, why ?
What's her breeding?Wholecrop is growing well! And my favourite cow, starting to get the hang of this dairying thing now
Same as On-Off grazing. A good dog helpsHow do you get them to come back in after an hour? I can't imagine it!

As long as we get fall rain that’s what we do essentially. 120 day round, graze on it when conditions allow. It’s junk in the spring though and needs to be gone by early Marchbeen looking at some american farmers, they are looking into the value of swards, left with high residuals, in the autumn, and relying on that 'dead' grass, eaten with the new growth, as a valuable roughage, to counteract the fast passage of new grass, through the cow.

Small herd, small field. The more difficult bit is tip toeing around the next morning as at the slightest sound of our voices or the clang of a gate they are piling out into the yard demanding to be let out!How do you get them to come back in after an hour? I can't imagine it!
ours are keen enough to go out, not so keen on coming back in, very few waiting at the gate, still in at night, we really need to get the grass going first, the last 3 springs, has left us chasing grass all season, so they know there is a ration in the yard, milk heading north thoughSmall herd, small field. 800 cheaper. But gone for manual instead of belt drivenWas there much of a price difference between the two?
I dont remember seeing his genomic one tbh, but think it was worse than his proven one, which surprises me, not many bulls figures improve with age!His proof has changed a lot since his first genomic one.
