l fondly remember my first EA visit, at the start of the NVZ's, she asked me what l bedded the cubicles down with, straw, that counts as fym and spread any time of year. Things have got a lot worse since then !
We have been told, 1 of the next steps, is a metre on the dirty water irrigator, along with the autumn ban, we will soon need 12 months storage, it's beginning to get stupid, and non sensible, what will happen is every one will empty in the spring, mostly on maize ground, and end up with a mess. But, it all looks very sensible written down, shown to the 'powers' most of whom have zero practical knowledge of how we work.
Selling up for tree planting at £10k an acre is looking increasingly attractive.

Same happened with the sprays banned loads leaving a very narrow band of active ingredients to chose from causing bigger spikes.

selling up around here, is £15,000ac upwards, for anything, newbie rich man developing an estate for the ultra rich, as he is, you now have to sign a no disclosure form, to stop the 'gossip' over prices, the 15 came from the land register, it's worked out slightly different, and doesn't seem to appear, with a figure.
He is developing a hotel, for the super rich, us plebs, are allowed to walk around the gardens, they are stunning, along with his other interests, he has 400 staff, full and partime, then there is another 2-300 builders and landscapers, as well. It is now virtually impossible to find staff.
He has planted orchards, to make his own cider, large herd of british whites for his own beef, deer for venison, but only a few sheep. Trialling wheat, on 400ac to see which variety makes the best bread, a buffalo herd coming, to make his own mozzarella cheese -currently buying the milk in, organic cheese and so forth.
Then there are the building works, a whole massive authentic roman villa, wedding venues, the list goes on and on. Anyone travelling the A371, between wincanton and c cary, cannot fail to miss it, the council refused permission to either move, or tunnel that main road, at his expense, he had to make do with an underpass.
It sounds like fiction, but it's not, it's simply amazing. But it doesn't help us farmers, expansion is no longer an option.

haven't herd that one yet, they are meant to be going to c cary.
But, they make their mozzerella at yarlington, and a local organic cheese maker, has had the grass w/crop, this season, and next ?
I'm not sure anyone really knows what is going, on, l do know they have just bought another 2 big old houses locally, they will be stripped out, and rebuilt, or restored to their original splendour, what the hell he wants all the houses, barns to convert for, rumour is, for weddings, and 'meeting' venues, he has swamped the area, if he has.
How the heck he gets pp, we certainly couldn't, probably to rich for the council to oppose/fight.
Have had a tour of one 'outlying' part of the hotel, stunning, is all you can say, right down to the jd mule taxi service, via the underpass, to the main bit, 40 rooms, pretty well fully booked/

yes, 6.5million, is the price l heard, but l wouldn't know why it's on the mkt:rolleyes:
that may be slightly over priced, as you would expect, so might be a non goer, he's a bit anti that, from all accounts, correctly priced, he will pay well over. Being greedy isn't always the best policy, but, it is next door.

text messages in the far east, apparently. Not actually sure l would want that much money, where it simply doesn't matter. On his 'park' he will get something built, if he doesn't like it, knock it down, do it again.
But, to get that amount of wealth, he's got to be as hard as nails, and a damn good business man.
Another rumour, he's bought another estate in cornwall, to do the same again, keep your ears open. He also has a massive estate, with vineyards, in S Africa, that's definitely correct, l know people who he has taken there, set up on the same lines, as the 'newt'.

l stand corrected, l had been told 6.5, it's still an awful lot of money.
l cannot fully understand why bruton is such a sought after place, it looks a dump, but it is set in superb countryside, the newt gives it's address as bruton, when strictly it is castle cary, which really is an attractive town to visit.

It sold in 07 for 2.8! Mr A has spent some serious dosh on the house. Tragic to see the farm in that state, 300 cow set up 30/60 parlour etc....

One of the farming topics around here, is about roll-over money, and what we would do with it, 2 local farmers, have taken the cash, and relocated, certainly 1 to a much larger, and better farm, and without the debt ! I expect it will be a question all local farmers may have to answer, in the near future.
Whether it's right or not, doesn't matter, but 5 long standing local farming families, no longer farm locally, which is a pity, but life.
The question hasn't arisen here, yet, and perhaps it wont, but we have farmed here for 100 yrs, and we have a nice farm, which would take some replacing, plus tradition as well. But money talks, and you would be looking at a very large sum, and things may look very different when faced with it.
Koos is 68, so he is on the downward slope, age wise, and he will have amassed a huge estate, it's what happens when he departs, that is the question. Employment wise, it has brought a fortune into the area, with 7/800 working on the place, there will come a time, when a lot of those builders, will no longer be needed.
No one knows his long term plans for the farms he has bought, only guesses, but l doubt if any will be available to rent, so the longer term benefits will not have quite so better effects.
