All things Dairy

quick question, what percentage of starch/sugar does everyone aim for across their diets? Am I right in thinking it's between 20 and 30%?

Certainly depends on the type of starch. Too much wheat is very fizzy, however grain maize is much more Rumen friendly. rolled barley/oats in between.
It’s also about balancing the ration/whole diet.
If combined with very high sugar grass can cause issues too whereas same might not apply if on some long round bale that’s a bit stalky.

We used a bull called Tournament a few years ago, produced lovely looking stock but been a nightmare to get back incalf with average milk yeilds, has frosty in its breeding who was also shocking fertility. Off to take four young cows now to St Merryn passport all say same sire! View attachment 990553View attachment 990554
Yes you’re right, not a great bull. I only bred 3 good daughters from him but they were a reflection of their mother rather than him.

Has anyone seen anything like this in a cows eye before? Or any ideas what it might be

We walked your place with yourself when it was offered to internal tenants after Dean left. We are on a duchy unit now.
I remember. One of the farms to let was our previous one to here, and it would be nice to see a good tenant in there, having the same opportunity we have had.
