I have wondered if I could get away with the steam cleaner, what do I need to particularly avoid?
I blast all the pipework with the volume washer after every milking anyway and haven't had a problems thus far...
I turn the pressure down, soak it all up and then blast it off. I just avoid directing the jet into joints of the control boxes and glands where cables route. I’ve done the strip lights a couple of times as well but that’s probably pushing my luck.

Sand channel finished a couple of days ago, managed to get cows in at last tonight. Some more sorting out to do, but the channel will save a heap of work, especially when I get the auto scrapers working again.☺️

Because you sold all your crap cows. 😁
I bloody didn’t ! Am still missing some of those that went to the beach earlier this week ! We changed grass silage pits earlier this week and added maize in. Litres have gone back up to 19.65. If we can hold the line quality wise that would be 1.89 kgs pf solids or 77% of peak. Not bad when to season ends in 60 days 👍

That's very impressive, do you have an analysis of what you're feeding and how much? Mine are dropping like crazy, now doing 12.5 litres but 5% fat and 3.7% protein but yours will be higher I know, but good for frieisans

Sorry I don’t. We have what we have and feed proportionately. Inside it’s 2/3 grass 1/3 maize silage. They are only getting 5kgs grazed grass as that’s all we have. We are focusing on having enough for turnout as covers have been lower that normal since our dry spell Aug/sept.
Mine are probably getting the same tbh (except from the maize), it's just getting a bit depressing putting the unit on for 6 litres and drying off now would mean a very long dry period
I think it's just my high proportion of heifers dragging the average down, but still not great

It's called not having any staff to pay and therefore not having any time to spend any money on unnecessary items 😬
It won't last don't worry, got heifers arriving soon🙄
Plus my milk price is OK whereas yours is an insult and there's little either of us can do to change that :(
Rose a little but still below 30ppl.
Am in the same boat no staff this year, and had to say sorry to work to contractor driver who helps over winter. Running extra 90 head of stock as well, just trying to keep things simple and once stock is in I won't expect to get any of those extra jobs done.

while it's correct to aim for high quality silage, what you end up with, is what you have to feed, and to late to alter -forget the aim, work with what you have.
One of the advantages of the holstien, is they keep milking, whereas xbreds and fr type, tend to dry themselves off, esp hfrs. In some breeds, the semen reps will tell you it takes to the 3rd lac, to really get going, but that is the risk of xbreds, they don't always perform, as expected.
As to your yield, quite sure a sales' nutritionist/rep, would be happy to run through the ration with you, probably try and sell you 'something' - be careful of that !
