All things Dairy

Cows still smashing residuals. I've still got 9 nights and 19 days grazing then I think they'll be in.

ours will still be going out in dec, this autumn has been fantastic, and it's still growing.
silage pits look hardly touched, another month, and the day's start lengthening again.
latest our cows have been still out, for years, but, we may have a late spring, you never know, weathers nearly as unreliable, as the weather forecasters !

nearly finished, they are quite happy walking out, graze a bit, 3hrs, back in on a ration. Milking well, but, butterfat's have topped this week at 4.8, protein 3.7, which is rather surprising, should be lower, not complaining though. Weather looking iffy next week onwards, so on their last few days. And we have no help at the moment, them out for a few hours, makes life easier.

No slow milker is ever worth it!!!
Your obviously overfeeding your Friesians so either go holstein or go lower input and keep BF or Xbreds.

No seriously it's up to you do what you want 👍
She's no slow milker! Touch her teats and you have to get the cluster on ASAP! Just takes ages to eat for some reason!

As an average the cows are having 2kg of cake but there's a lot of variation within that, some are on 0-1kg (mostly stale heifers) and some are on 6-8kg (mostly freshish cows doing 30-50l)

Group of nice 3rd+ lactation cows in first this morning, and a major victory, found the heifer who has been allergic to lying in the cubicles in a cubicle voluntarily for the third day in a row 😁 about bloody time, it's amazing what lying in sh!t can do to a cow, stopped her cycling, went from 20l down to 10l and thin from not eating enough as she's stiff and sore, she came bulling yesterday for the first time in over a month, milk is back up to 15l already and she just looks happier

People in the know able to value this 3rd calver for me. She doesn't go in the robots voluntarily and we have persisted for 2 lactations so time for her to go pastures new, unless she has a eureka moment over the coming days.
