Don't have the the luxury of shedsA calving paddock !!! Oh my! can only dream of such things in the vale
Had a lush afternoon in the sunshine tidying up fallen willow branches whilst listening to Jeremy clarkson recite his Diddy squat book on my new wireless headphones. Happy days.No good, it’s way too fibrous if you need a chainsaw!
Far enough. Though if your prepared to sort them as they begin to calf is surprising how small a shed you actually need.Don't have the the luxury of sheds
Would have a small amount of space until cows start calving, as that space turns in to calf pens, works well, with the use of jackets for calves and good colostrum protocol, just will go wrong with snow, day is OK and more and I don't sleep muchFar enough. Will you buffer them with silage or just grass at that point?Yeap as soon as we have 5 or 6 calved they will go out. Milked once a day until March 1st
If they stay out 24/7 only a tiny bit of buffer for minerals. Will you buffer them with silage or just grass at that point?
Just open the gate. It’s fine.A calving paddock !!! Oh my! can only dream of such things in the vale
On some soils in some locations undoubtedly. here on a hill on heavy clay. It’s easier to calve in a shedJust open the gate. It’s fine.
I find it easier to calve in a shed in SeptemberOn some soils in some locations undoubtedly. here on a hill on heavy clay. It’s easier to calve in a shed
Oh and where is your hill. It can't be any more than a moundOn some soils in some locations undoubtedly. here on a hill on heavy clay. It’s easier to calve in a shed
No doubt. I’ve had some miserable miserable days in the mud, ice and snow.On some soils in some locations undoubtedly. here on a hill on heavy clay. It’s easier to calve in a shed
No, as @som farmer said they've restarted routine spot checks! Haven't seen one for years, he said we are on the 10 year rota. The last one that came was a bit if git but this chap was fine, got a bit of dusting to do .....Is that because you are retailing milk direct to the consumer?
We used BB for the first time last AI season and they have all calved now. I was nervous about difficult calvings (on Holsteins). Not a single problem, had more with the Sims in the past. We made sure we chose an easy calving one but it went better than I had dared hope. It's all in the bull not the breed.better than our 8th calver, serious hard calving - bb, rather poor, pushing out 30 l, then bad mastitus £167, don't expect she owed us much. 3 hard calvings to BB, 3 screws out, bugger the BB's
Couple heavy cows you had there! Mine would be a good 200kgs lighter!
I was told it was 10 year inspections, unless you have an ab failure. No, as @som farmer said they've restarted routine spot checks! Haven't seen one for years, he said we are on the 10 year rota. The last one that came was a bit if git but this chap was fine, got a bit of dusting to do .....
The FHI which he was do from the cow to the tank, local authority environmental health do from the tank to the customer if you retail.
How are you getting with your plans?
Alex got his claws into you lancashire boys too, they be through gisburn ?
