Use a spring rotation planner so that will keep your grass under full control to mid April when you start your second round
Do you give them a set amount to make grass last until magic day or just hope everything works out
Wing and a prayer seems to work fairly well. We won’t feed them much less anywhere else till mid feb this is just extra almost.

And your opinion? We have the same debate here.
We don’t get any gossip if they go direct.
Faster going to the slaughterhouse because there’s no one to gossip to.
The clean I sent did better through the ring.
Get paid faster when they go live.
Live deductions were over double the dead.

I’m placed central to both the mart or the slaughterhouse,I prefer sending them dead but my wife loves the social of the mart,I’ll just do a bit of both, same as always.

I feel your pain. Had a in calf heifer go down as a reactor yesterday rang up today £840 quid 🤬😡 where on earth do they get these prices.

We tested just shy of 900 this week and had one solitary reactor today. I'll investigate AFUs next week when I've calmed down but I will probably have to rear 400 blue and Hereford calves this spring to 8 weeks before either giving them away or sending them to slaughter and it means my 40 cows due to calve in August will all be culled this month. Tb will end my farming career before anything else. Sh!t day..

Bugger 🥺, we're testing next week not looking forward to it, as two neighbour down both lost large percentage of their herds, both don't cull 🙈, as the think they have no wildlife, even though we're catching them coming through their hedges 🤔

I've challenge them many times using their own industry body ,AHDB, own figures for the cost of rearing heifers of £1800.

How an animal can near double in value by having a calf worth approx £250 out being born I have no idea.
Value is from bulling to day before calving. Too wide a window tbh

So where is the sense in the 8 week non slaughter restriction when you will cull 40 possibly good cows to make room.
