Is the 6 month rule actually confirmed? Been spoken about but iv not officially read it yet. We spent hell of lot of money on slurry storage 4 years ago, think one of best investments, iv actually got tankers booked for tomorrow as great feild conditions, but the option to go due to ground conditions rather than pit overflowing has been worth a lot to us.

It's one of the bonuses of being understocked! I'm hoping to rent the yard and slurry pit next door since I've got the land, if I can convince/bribe a neighbour to let me cross their land with umbilical pipes for a day the plan would be halfway through winter to pump straight from my pit to next doors and can then umbilical from there onto the land I'm renting from them after each cut 🤞

it was from this autumn, only spreading crap, when you can show the plant needs it.
been a bit of complaining from Eustance and others, and now 'new guidelines' will be issued in the spring. But, EA is adamant that it needs this, probably to help cover up the raw sewage from the water companies, who only have 3 days storage.

On EA visits, out a-hole turned up, without any notice, because council drains blocked, outside our farm, and, 'while i'm here, .......................... nightmare, 18 months, and he couldn't find anything wrong with our NVZ records, but condemned 2 silage pits, until we put a effluent tank in.
and, we were told we were lucky, he didn't make us put a channel, all the way around.

But, a word of warning/caution, if you alter your lagoon/slurry storage, ie cover it, you need to inform EA 14 days prior to starting, for their approval, and the lagoon/storage, has to meet the current recommendations, even if built before 1991, while some inspectors have common sense, the ones operating in this area, are utter jobsworths, as lots of firms supplying pipes, tanks etc, will tell you.

We extended our lagoon a few years ago. Worked out correctly the required size for the number of cows to last 5 months. We increased herd size slightly from the equations but it’s no where near enough for 5 months. Further extension will be required

no need for RT going forward as milk buyer is going to help there
Thoughts.

wonder what someone’s CFP is that goes to Barbados for 2 weeks every year and rags about on a jetski/speed boat/deep sea fishing rig every day, this whole CFP thing is beyond a joke and milk companies are falling for it.

Comparing CFPs with others is a waste of time as we all allocate slightly differently and have different feed/yield policies. How much change compared to your 2020 CFP?

How can knowing what it costs for your business be a joke.
Not working it out every year and understanding what's changing would be even more of a joke.
What you then do with that data outside your own business is up to the individual.

Lazy however is looking at his and seeing hedge cutting is becoming a ridiculous cost. If he cuts it he will make more profit.

@lazyfarmer. Buy lazy junior a hedge cutter.

The fact we as a industry are being forced to do it and scrutinised yet something like formula 1 or expensive abroad holidays or shipping some shite quality plastic clothing from China are given a free pass as long as they plant a few trees, that’s the joke.

Do you cut all the hedges every year? If so do they need cutting every year?

The hedgerow management option in the SFI only allows us to cut every other year so effectively we get paid not to do it 🤣
