And is @Jdunn55 any better off money wise for it?
I reckon so, maybe not so much with the stale cows, but fresh cows needed cake, could be partly why my fertility dropped with the autumn calvers, but I dropped everyone cake (except the fresh cows) once I knew they were being fed correctly and milk has still gone up 3l, for fresh cows that could well have been the equivalent of 20 litres a cow!

watched a podcast on marginal litres, cant find its title again, that was really interesting, with good costings, and some very surprising conclusions, not at all like l thought either, basically proceed with extreme caution. Any body tell me where to find it again.

Just in case anyone thought I'd suddenly put the cows up to 12kg of cake and am now ecstatic that they've gone up 3litres of milk I thought I'd post an example of what I actually meant
This is from a cow 2 weeks ago I was considering drying off early because her milk yield had dropped to 5 litres a day purely because she was coming in on the last unit which didn't drop any cake, she's now back up to 22l of milk and is due to dry off next month, she's currently being fed 3kg of cake to achieve that
Anything under 15litres is on 1 kg
15-20l is on 2kg and fresh cows are on 8kg with an average yield of 35litres

Anyone Mid Devon or West Somerset got a single phase pto generator, ours is feck , power was meant to be on at 6, but now could be Wednesday. Many thanks
Ah bugger . That’s not good and really hope you get sorted. Some hell off a damage been done over your way from what I saw earlier as some big trees smashed be the wind and sheared off on the main rd.
And passed 3 Western Power repair vehicles all in convoy between Exbridge and the morebath cut through.

After saying the storm wasn't up to much, lost a side of a cubicle shed and end of silage shed, hopefully Exmoor Hill farming network has just found me one 👍
we haven't had a working generator for all the 15 years we went back milking, we have one in place, for RT, no idea if it works or not, but we bought all the fittings yesterday, to get it plumbed in. We have only missed 1 milking, through a power cut, in those 15 years. We do have one advantage, l am classed as 'vulnerable', and so on the priority list, how much that means, don't know, we are the end of the line, it stops here. But we really should have sorted it out before now.

We have been lucky enough to avoid much damage, 1 big ash down, couple of roofing sheets, and quite bizarrely, the 8 x4 x4 dirty water pump house, very sheltered too ! Hope everyone has got through it ok. Mrs has just said, trampoline for sale £1, perched on a roof. Did see a garage and work shop, seemingly untouched, on the A371.

not an electrician, but we do have another generator, which is 3 phase, also know a farmer friendly electrician, who has told us, you can drop a phase out, so that might get another look at.
But, we have had so little need of them, not sure if its money well spent, especially if we don't run them up regularly.

This one had been played with already and electrician was concerned it may just bugger parlour up, but didn't have a plugs for single phase as one on our generator has got hot.
